Sunday- May 27
First- Sunday School: We had two inactive girls come to the class and they participated so that was good! I taught about Alma the younger and the process of becoming truly converted, repenting, and then sharing the Gospel with others. Madeline, my friend from the Centre, came and sat in on my lesson and she said she learned something. The students weren't super responsive no matter how engaging I tried to be. I will try some new tactics next time... maybe class outside? I guess there is a Sunday School teacher but she was late and came to class like 10 minutes before it got over and just sat in on my lesson. She seemed very appreciative that I was there. I'm going to work on connecting to the students even more next week!
Second- New Outfit: I wil take pictures of my outfit to show sometime soon. It's a cute, white, collared blouse that I can wear to work when I get home. I wore it with a long blue/green, aqua? colored, flowing skirt. I also had curls, pearls, and lipstick to complete my outfit... I feel good when I look good. I love feeling feminine. :)
Third- Fireside: An older gentleman from the stake we are serving in came to the Centre at night to give us a fireside. He lived in London during the Blitz of World War II, which if you don't know, is when German bombers flew over London and bombed it consistently through the night with the purpose of destroying the city and ruining morale. He described what the period was like and what his life was like. When he was four, he and his two year old brother were sent to Wales (on a train all by themselves) to live with a couple of strangers and to be kept out of London. This is like the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe but what actually happened. He talked about bomb shelters in his backyard in London and throughout the city. He talked about his dad's job as a factory worker and as a firefighter who had to pull people out of the wreckage each morning and then go to work at the factory. Sometimes, his family didn't see him for three or four days because he was consistently working. People continued to go to work each morning and the city continued to run even through the bombing. I was amazed at his strength and the strength the Londoners must have had to have. Even on 7/7 (the terrorist bombings on the Tube in 2005), people went right back to work the next day. Authorities were worried people would not use the Tube any more but they did. This gave me a unique insight to Londoners' spirits. They cannot be broken. Sometimes Brits are classified as hard and unfriendly but one thing I can say is that they are hard working people who cannot be broken. I am so very grateful I have never had to live through any serious war and that no tragedy of such magnitude has influenced me. Even though I haven't, I admire that strength and would love to develop it myself. I'm filled with humility and gratitude.
Fourth- Studying: Additional study session with Jullian Smith video breaks in between with Jaden and Katherine. "I'm readin a book, yo. I'm readin a book!"
